Bitcoin Cash by the numbers for September 2026: activity, fees, hashrate, ecosystem health and the upgrade calendar.
Summary
CME Group announced Bitcoin Cash futures, set to launch 19 October pending regulatory review. That is the biggest institutional signal BCH has had in years. On-chain, the chain did what it always does: about 12,000 transactions a day, for about a tenth of a cent each. The open question for the next two months is whether the May 2027 upgrade carries Faster Blocks.

The ecosystem
Of 371 listed projects in the directory: 288 alive, 26 stale, 24 dead, 33 unknown.
Dead means the site failed two daily checks in a row. Four domains that directories still link to now redirect to spam, a casino or a domain-sale page: the old Zapit, tipbitcoincash, CashShuffle and Satoshi’s Angels sites. We moved them, and 27 other gone projects, to the graveyard. XDEFI (later Ctrl) wallet shut down on 19 August.

What happened
- CME futures. On 22 September CME Group said it plans to list Bitcoin Cash futures (250 BCH) and Micro Bitcoin Cash futures (25 BCH) from 19 October, pending regulatory review.
- May 2027 upgrade. Nothing is locked in yet. Lock-in for the 2027 cycle is expected around 15 November 2026. Faster Blocks is the main candidate, and stakeholder statements are split. A year with no consensus change is possible. Follow it on the 2027 upgrade page.
