Bitcoin Cash in Nigeria: how to buy, spend and receive BCH (2026)

A practical, honest guide to Bitcoin Cash in Nigeria: which licensed exchange lists BCH, the naira-to-BCH route, P2P safety after Paxful, remittances, cash-out to naira, wallets and the 2025 tax and securities laws.

Verified

Nigeria has one of the busiest crypto markets in Africa, but almost all of it runs on bitcoin and USDT. Bitcoin Cash is a small corner of it. That shapes this guide: there is no direct naira-to-BCH market on the platforms we checked in September 2026, so every route goes through USDT. The good news is that the route is short and uses a licensed local exchange.

How to buy BCH with naira

Quidax (licensed, two steps)

Quidax says it was the first exchange to get a provisional Digital Assets Exchange licence from Nigeria’s SEC, in August 2024. Its public API lists a live BCH/USDT market. Its naira markets include USDT/NGN, but not BCH/NGN. So:

  1. Deposit naira by bank transfer and buy USDT.
  2. Trade USDT for BCH on the BCH/USDT market.
  3. Withdraw the BCH to your own wallet.

The BCH/USDT market is thin. On our check it traded only about one BCH in 24 hours. Use limit orders and look at the gap between the best bid and ask before you trade.

Already hold USDT or another coin?

SideShift.ai swaps crypto for BCH without an account. Nigeria is not on its list of restricted jurisdictions.

What we checked and ruled out

  • Paxful wound down by 1 November 2025.
  • Binance P2P showed zero naira ads for BCH or USDT on 26 September 2026.
  • Busha, another SEC-licensed exchange, does not list BCH in its supported currencies.

P2P safety

Paxful’s closure pushed many Nigerian traders into Telegram and WhatsApp deals. Most P2P scams start there.

  • Use escrow, always. If a trader wants you to send first outside a platform, walk away.
  • Never release crypto on a screenshot. Wait until the naira shows in your bank app.
  • The payer’s name must match the trader’s name. Third-party payments are how stolen funds get laundered through your account.
  • Start small with anyone new.
  • “Recovery agents” are scammers. Nobody can reverse a blockchain transaction for a fee.

How to spend BCH

  • Pay people directly. Sending BCH costs less than one US cent and shows up in seconds. Blocks confirm it about every 10 minutes on average.
  • Gift cards and airtime. CoinsBee accepts BCH for gift cards and mobile top-ups. Check that a card or operator works in Nigeria before you pay; many codes are region-locked.
  • Merchants. We found no current, verifiable list of Nigerian shops that accept BCH. If you run a business and want to accept it, see /accept.

We found no service that lets you pay Nigerian utility bills directly in BCH.

Remittances and cashing out to naira

For family abroad sending money home:

  1. The sender buys BCH where they live and sends it to your address. It arrives in seconds for a sub-cent network fee.
  2. You send the BCH to Quidax and sell it for USDT.
  3. You sell USDT for naira and withdraw to your bank.

Two conversions mean two spreads. Sometimes it is cheaper to keep part of it in USDT and convert only what you need. The BCH network fee is almost never the cost that matters; the exchange spread is.

Wallet recommendation

Use a non-custodial wallet, where only you hold the recovery phrase. Paytaca runs on Android, iOS and as a Chrome extension. Electron Cash covers desktop. Compare them on our wallet chooser.

  • Write the recovery phrase on paper. Never screenshot it.
  • No real support agent will ask for it.

The Investments and Securities Act 2025, signed in March 2025, treats virtual and digital assets as securities and puts digital asset exchanges and other service providers under the Securities and Exchange Commission, which now licenses them. Holding and using crypto as an individual is not banned. On tax, the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 took effect on 1 January 2026. Press and adviser summaries say gains from digital assets are now chargeable gains taxed through personal income tax, at up to 25% for individuals, and that licensed exchanges must report user transactions to the tax authority. This is not legal or tax advice. Rules are new and still being applied; talk to a Nigerian tax professional.

Local BCH communities

A Bitcoin Cash Nigeria account (@bch_nigeria on X) has promoted BCH builder meetups. We could not load the account to confirm recent activity, so we do not link it here. For builders, /build and the glossary are good starting points.

What BCH does not solve

BCH is volatile. If you need to hold dollar value for next month, a stablecoin moves less. BCH is good at moving value cheaply and quickly, peer to peer, with no account. Read our risks page before you put money in.
